Caregiver - School-Hour Shifts

Haven Home Care•Norton, OH
•$16 - $20•Onsite

About The Position

Haven Home Care is hiring caregivers to provide nonmedical in-home support, primarily to older adults, in Summit County, Ohio. Work commonly takes place between 8 AM and 5 PM, with many shifts lasting 2–6 hours and no overnight shifts. During the phone interview, applicants provide their available days, hours, travel range, and client preferences; the company matches clients to those limits. A narrower availability window or other restrictions can mean a smaller pool of clients and a longer wait for a match. Caregivers generally develop regular weekly clients after an initial period in which reliability may be gauged through fill-in shifts. Most caregivers have 2–4 regular clients, with optional fill-in shifts for additional hours. Shifts can range from 2–3 hours to 8 hours, and caregivers will usually need several clients across different days to reach 20 or more weekly hours. Caregivers assist clients in their homes with bathing, dressing, meals, light cleaning, errands, companionship, and mobility. The work is physical and involves being on one’s feet for much of the day. Caregivers do not administer medication or perform medical tasks; those duties are for nurses. Applicants must be able to work at least 20 hours per week and be available within 6 AM–8 PM, setting their own work window within that range. The job requires a driver’s license, an insured personal vehicle suitable for work driving, successful background checks, legal authorization to work in the United States, and being at least 18 years old. Applicants may qualify through an active or expired STNA license, a qualifying HHA certificate, at least one year of experience at one company under an RN or LPN, or a free 32-hour online training course for candidates without experience. The training is online, takes six days to complete, and is unpaid. Depending on the qualification path, applicants may need to complete an Ohio-required written and skills test in person at the Cuyahoga Falls office; both parts require a score of at least 80%. STNAs and applicants who can document a qualifying prior HHA test may skip the test. The hiring process includes a phone conversation, online questionnaire, any needed test, online paperwork, online orientation and document check, and fingerprinting. Pay is $18 per hour for STNAs; $16–$18 per hour for HHA certificate holders or qualified experienced caregivers, based on interview; and $16 per hour for candidates qualifying through the no-experience training pathway. For a private-pay client referred by the caregiver, the stated rates are $19 per hour for an HHA and $20 per hour for an STNA. Holiday work pays an additional 10%. Pay is issued every two weeks by direct deposit, and drive time between clients is paid; travel to the first client and from the last client is not. The role is a W-2 position. The company states that it does not offer PTO, a 401(k), or health insurance.
