About The Position
This is an ongoing coverage need for a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at a Level III trauma center. The role involves inpatient, OR, clinic, and call coverage, with specific night and weekend call responsibilities for the OR only. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with rotating night and weekend call. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. The facility uses EPIC for its EMR system. Credentialing is expected to take 60 days.
Requirements
- Active Pennsylvania licensure
- Board certification
- AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum 2-years Cardiothoracic Surgery experience or equivalent
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
- Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Pennsylvania OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Pennsylvania
- National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
- Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
- Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
