About The Position

This is a locum tenens position for a General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide coverage for extra volume. The primary focus is on General Surgery, with potential support needed in Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Urology, and ENT. The facility is a Level I trauma center with a 953-bed capacity, handling an average daily census of 10-30 cases and 90-110 cases per week. The role involves comprehensive patient assessments, developing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing medications, patient education, performing procedures, collaborating with physicians, and accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Active Georgia licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year General Surgery experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Georgia
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
  • Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Georgia
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

  • Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Urology and ENT may need support as well

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
