About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at a 300-bed facility, which is a Level I trauma center. The role involves inpatient, OR, and call coverage, with an average of 1-3 cases per day. The practice includes a team of 5 Surgeons, 6 ICU APPs, 2 Floor APPs, and 1 Clinic APP. The position is full-time, requiring 4 10-hour shifts per week, with rotating weeknight and weekend call. The patient population is adult. The EMR system used is EPIC, and credentialing takes approximately 90 days.

Requirements

Active Colorado licensure
Board certification
AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
Minimum 1-year Cardiothoracic Surgery experience or equivalent
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Colorado
National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Colorado
National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Order and interpret diagnostic tests
Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
