About The Position

The Captain - Security assigns duties to security officers and schedules, directs, and supervises assigned employees. The Captain assumes the role of Security Director and/or Manager in their absence. The position requires qualifying law enforcement, corrections, Department of Homeland Security, or military experience; leadership, communication, investigative, problem-solving, and computer skills; and specified Rhode Island licenses and certifications. Work involves rotating shifts and varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, noisy, wet, dry, dirty, smoky, and dusty settings. Duties and responsibilities may change at any time.

Requirements

Be a current or former law enforcement officer in good standing with at least two years of on-the-job experience and a certificate of completion from a law enforcement academy approved by the Director; or qualify through one of the specified corrections, Department of Homeland Security, or military experience pathways.
For the corrections pathway, be a current or former correctional officer in good standing with at least two years of on-the-job experience and graduate of the Correction Officers Training Academy.
For the Department of Homeland Security pathway, be current or former personnel with appropriate law enforcement training and at least two years of on-the-job experience.
For the military pathway, have at least three years of service, an honorable discharge, and appropriate law enforcement training and experience consistent with civilian law enforcement experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to solve problems and develop constructive relationships with others.
Leadership abilities in directing, supervising, and motivating a diverse workforce.
Prior investigative experience.
Computer literacy.
Serve Safe Certified.
Must be able to be licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulations and complete its background check.
Rhode Island Pistol Permit.
Rhode Island Driver Operator License.
Physical and mental requirements include constantly standing, walking several hundred feet, climbing, carrying, hearing, bending, stooping, using manual dexterity, following directions, and adhering to detail; frequent eye/hand coordination.
