About The Position

Camp Counselors work at an overnight camp session running March 14–20, 2027, with paid staff training March 5–7. Staff live on-site. Counselors support campers’ well-being, lead activities, manage cabin routines and logistics, and maintain camper safety and supervision throughout the day and overnight. Camp locations include Lake Travis, serving ages 12–15, and Zilker Lodge, serving ages 8–11. The job posting also notes that counselors may use their ASC experience for college internship credit while receiving seasonal pay.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Genuine passion for empowering youth and making a positive impact on the Austin community.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
• High energy, positivity, flexibility, and resilience to handle long hours and challenging situations.
• Ability to pass a national criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of experience in camp, youth development, or outdoor programming.

Responsibilities

• Foster a caring and inclusive sense of belonging within the cabin.
• Help campers develop emotional regulation skills and resolve conflicts using restorative practices.
• Support campers in processing difficulties and developing resilience through trauma-informed care.
• Give campers intentional freedom and choices to build confidence.
• Lead or support daily activities, programs, and large-scale camp events.
• Create and carry out engaging downtime activities and bedtime routines.
• Follow assigned schedules and manage cabin logistics, including camper mail.
• Maintain constant supervision of campers, including overnight.
• Conduct routine headcounts and maintain an accurate camper roster.
• Follow ASC policies, health department regulations, and American Camp Association standards.
• Complete behavior and incident reports as needed.
