About The Position

The Cafeteria Helper supports the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility. The position performs food preparation and serving tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill, along with cleaning, dishwashing, supply handling, and basic recordkeeping. This role is considered an assistant to the Lead and is expected to assume responsibility when the Lead is unavailable. The position is listed as 3.75 hours per day (0.47 FTE). External applicants receive a substitute appointment, with potential appointment through the civil service process.

Requirements

Minimum of a high school diploma.
Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the food service industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and regularly sanitize kitchen equipment and utensils.
Prepare vegetables and other foods for cooking.
Make soups, simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
Prepare sandwiches and salads.
Operate electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
Clean tables and kitchen equipment.
Collect, wash, and put away dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils.
Sweep floors and clean counters, tables, food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
Receive and check deliveries of food and other supplies.
Store food properly in refrigerators and the storeroom, and keep stores in good order.
Assist with inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeping simple records.
Assume responsibility when the Lead is unavailable.
