About The Position

The Cafeteria Helper performs food preparation and serving tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill, along with duties supporting the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area. The position assists the Lead and is expected to assume responsibility when the Lead is unavailable. It is a civil service position scheduled for 3.75 hours per day (.47 FTE).

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Applicants must be prepared to assume responsibility when the Lead is unavailable.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the food service industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables and other foods for cooking.
• Make soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
• Prepare sandwiches and salads.
• Operate electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
• Clean tables and kitchen equipment.
• Collect and wash dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils, and put them away.
• Sweep floors and clean counters, tables, and kitchen equipment, including food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
• Receive and check deliveries of food and other supplies.
• Store food properly in refrigerators and storerooms, and keep stores in good order.
• Assist with taking inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeping simple records.
• Assume responsibility when the Lead is unavailable.
