About The Position

Cable technicians construct and install cable-based services for customers. They install, maintain, test, repair, and replace cable television transmission and distribution systems and associated hardware, including equipment in homes and commercial buildings. The work includes analog and digital cable TV signals, high-speed Internet connections, and digital telephone service via coaxial cable.

The role also involves physical labor such as loading and unloading equipment and general maintenance around the local office. Candidates should be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and work outdoors in all weather conditions at any time of day or night. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

The successful candidate must acquire and maintain union membership and establish and maintain Pennsylvania residency within 20 miles of the base area office or within the county where the office is based within 120 days.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent related experience is preferred.
• Maintain Pennsylvania residency within 20 miles of the base office or within the county where the office is based, as required within 120 days.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver's license and good driving record.
• Strong background in personal computers and Microsoft Windows.
• Strong background in electronics.
• Knowledge of building structures and commercial phone systems.
• Customer relations, computer, oral and written communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently without immediate supervision and as part of a team on larger projects.
• Ability to perform tasks and adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Ability to work well with hand tools.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and at any time of day or night.
• Ability to travel within the required service footprint.
• Acquire and maintain union membership.

Responsibilities

• Construct and install cable-based services for customers.
• Install, maintain, test, repair, and replace cable television transmission and distribution systems and associated hardware in homes and commercial buildings.
• Work with analog and digital cable TV signals, high-speed Internet connections, and digital telephone service delivered via coaxial cable.
• Load and unload equipment and perform general maintenance in and around the local office.
• Splice hard-line cable, passives, and electronics.
• Pull trunk and feeder cable into open trenches.
• Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders, and other support structures.
• Travel within the required service footprint.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
