About The Position

The Minnesota Star Tribune is seeking dynamic leaders passionate about journalism and democracy to help shape the future of this innovative modern media organization. This 10-week summer reporting internship is designed for talented, driven college juniors, seniors, and graduate students who can cover breaking news and write enterprise stories. The program aims to provide interns with invaluable experience from a major-market newsroom, developing their skills and polish. Requirements

  • Talented, driven college juniors, seniors and graduate students
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to handle deadline pressure
  • Proficient with web research tools
  • Proficient with social media tools
  • Proficient with InCopy or similar publishing software
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Highly proficient writers
  • Currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status

  • Skills working with data, including analysis and building digital visualizations

Responsibilities

  • Develop their own story ideas
  • Run hard at the assignments given
  • Work closely with editors, photographers and other reporters to provide substantive news stories
  • Work regularly from the Star Tribune office
