Motorola Solutions•Washington, NV
•$100,000 - $140,000•Remote

About The Position

Silvus Technologies is seeking a Business Development Engineer to join its Applications Engineering team and connect technical radio-frequency capabilities with USSOCOM customer requirements and emerging trends. The role supports USSOCOM acquisition stakeholders and Component Commands in demonstrating the technical capabilities, interoperability, low-signature performance, and field readiness of the StreamCaster MANET radio portfolio across multi-domain, tactical-edge, and uncrewed environments. The position works alongside Engineering and Business Development teams and reports to the Director of Applications Engineering. It requires frequent travel to customer sites, research laboratories, and field-testing environments; a 100% remote working option may be available depending on location. The engineer will help analyze operational and communications needs, support technical planning and field evaluations, contribute to demonstrations and proposal responses, and research potential integrations with industry partners. The role also gathers operator feedback and helps translate field requirements into product roadmap inputs while tracking engineering progress against operational needs. The position may involve conferences, technical symposiums, trade shows, and outdoor field trials. Employees may occasionally encounter heat, cold, and allergens and must lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related C5ISR field, with 2–5 years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering, technical business development, or defense technology roles; alternatively, a high school diploma/GED with 5 or more years of relevant technical or defense experience.
  • Exposure to or working knowledge of Software-Defined Radios (SDRs), IP-based routing protocols, or tactical communication systems.
  • Basic familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
  • Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or ability to obtain one within 15 months of hire.
  • U.S. citizenship, due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test is a condition of employment.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds for tactical network demonstrations and testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of USSOCOM procurement pathways, including SOF AT&L, PEO-C4, and SOFWERX OTAs, and operational needs across USASOC, NAVSPECWARCOM, AFSOC, and MARSOC.
  • Familiarity with Low Probability of Intercept / Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD), anti-jamming tactics, or signature management in contested or spectrum-denied environments.
  • Practical experience with TCP/IP networking, Linux environments, or scripting languages such as Python or C++ for test automation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze USSOCOM capability gaps, SOF-peculiar communications requirements, and tactical-edge network goals, and map operational needs to tactical radio solutions.
  • Support technical planning, network configuration, and live-on-the-air execution of field trials, modernizations, and user evaluations.
  • Use continuous testing and competitive benchmarking data with the Applications Engineering team to help verify proposed solution architectures.
  • Coordinate with the Business Development team on technical needs and established strategic priorities.
  • Help build and present technical demonstrations tailored to USSOCOM and Component Command operational needs, including low-signature, resilient, and tactical-edge requirements.
  • Contribute technical input and review support for RFI/RFP proposal responses.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential industry-partner integrations and test end-to-end network architectures.
  • Assist Business Development in engaging technical stakeholders across USSOCOM PEO-SOF Digital Applications / PEO-C4, SOF AT&L, SOFWERX, and Component Command Science & Technology leads.
  • Gather field feedback, signature-management requirements, and operational needs as an internal voice for the SOF Operator; help translate these into product roadmap inputs and track engineering progress against operational needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel frequently to customer sites, research laboratories, and strategic field-testing environments.
