About The Position

The University of New Mexico Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is hiring multiple full-time Bus Drivers to join our dynamic 39-member driving team. Each year, our team safely transports 1.7 million students, faculty, staff, and visitors to and from the University. As one of the first University representatives encountered by guests, our bus drivers play a vital role in supporting UNM’s community outreach and public relations efforts. Our mission is to deliver the highest level of safety, reliability, and friendly customer service to everyone we serve.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• At least 6 months of experience operating large passenger buses (40 feet or greater).
• Experience working within a scheduled transportation system.
• Proficient in performing routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checking oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, water, and tire pressures.
• Bus and facilities clean up experience and willingness to participate.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed and promptly reports accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences.
• Demonstrates appropriate behavior in a professional working environment.
• Respects and values all internal and external customers, including co-workers.
• Ability to follow all university and PATS policies and procedures as directed.
• Capable of addressing concerns or issues by notifying and following the appropriate chain of command.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement is a requirement for this job.
• As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services.
• Assist in maintaining a positive image of the University through professional interactions with passengers and all PATS team members.
• Operate shuttle buses in accordance with established schedules and safety regulations.
• Performs routine pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checking oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, water, and tire pressures.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed and promptly reports accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences.
• Participates in bus and facilities clean up.
