About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe transportation of children and maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the center and its grounds. The role involves driving a bus, performing janitorial duties, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children during transport and at the center. The position requires adherence to various safety regulations and program procedures, including those related to child safety, hazardous materials, and vehicle maintenance. Additionally, the role serves as a liaison between families and program staff, and may involve assisting with recruitment and providing support to other locations.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Possess a valid CDL Certification with passenger and school bus endorsements.
Ability to work irregular and/or flexible hours.
Be insurable in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations.
Must have a reliable car, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
Must have a current DOT physical and possess a current DOT medical card or complete a DOT physical exam prior to transporting children.
Must submit to a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
Must complete a TB test screening showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner as required by local/state regulation.
Must complete approved SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
Fire Extinguisher Training, Infant/Child CPR and First Aid upon hire or prior to transporting children.
Position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check prior to starting.

Nice To Haves

Experience in transporting young children preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and conduct maintenance of vehicles, including inspections and routine maintenance.
Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any issues.
Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies and ensure proper use and storage of chemicals.
Maintain a list of children transported and take daily attendance.
Participate in child safety checks during routes, ensuring proper securing of children and reporting safety concerns.
Serve as a liaison between families and program staff, reporting family information/concerns.
Complete required paperwork, including tracking vehicle operating expenditures and maintenance.
Conduct monthly bus evacuation drills and document results.
Maintain the center in a clean and sanitary condition according to schedules and procedures.
Maintain outside building grounds, including lawn care, trimming, painting, and snow removal.
Conduct daily inspections of playground and equipment.
Transport and supervise children and parents during meetings, field trips, and at health clinics.
Participate in training for serving children with disabilities.
Assist with recruitment plan activities, including recruiting children with disabilities.
Provide support or T/TA to other locations with travel requirements.
Develop bus routes in coordination with Family Services and Center Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
