About The Position

Breakfast Cooks support Hy-Vee’s Market Grille morning operation by preparing hot and cold breakfast items, prepping ingredients, and assembling dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications. The role helps keep the kitchen running smoothly throughout service and includes providing friendly customer service, taking guest orders as needed, and preparing items for upcoming shifts. Cooks work in a fast-paced kitchen, maintain sanitation and organization, and collaborate with co-workers to support customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in varied situations with limited standardization.
Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Nice To Haves

Six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and greet customers positively.
Prepare cooking surfaces and ready the kitchen for service.
Prepare vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast foods according to restaurant recipes and specifications.
Place food in hot cases, monitor quantities, and refill as needed.
Prepare items for upcoming shifts to support a smooth transition.
Stay knowledgeable about menu items and take guest orders as needed.
Order products and supplies when necessary or notify the department head of supply needs.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other areas of the store and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
