About The Position

Breakfast Cooks support Hy-Vee’s Market Grille morning operation by preparing a variety of hot and cold breakfast items. They prepare ingredients and assemble dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications, helping keep the kitchen running smoothly throughout service. The role suits someone who enjoys kitchen work, takes pride in food quality, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment. The position provides prompt, friendly customer service, prepares and replenishes food for service, readies the kitchen, and maintains sanitation and organization. Cooks work as part of a team, may assist in other store areas or special projects, and are expected to follow Hy-Vee policies and report to work as scheduled and on time. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in situations with limited standardization.
Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.

Nice To Haves

Six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers and making interactions positive.
Prepare cooking surfaces and ready the kitchen for service.
Prepare vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast foods according to restaurant recipes and specifications.
Place food in hot cases, monitor quantities, and refill as necessary.
Prepare items for upcoming shifts to support a smooth transition.
Stay knowledgeable about menu items and take guest orders as needed.
Order products and supplies when necessary or notify the department head of needs.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
Work with coworkers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
