About The Position

Breakfast Cook in Hy-Vee’s Market Grille prepares hot and cold breakfast items for customers and helps keep the kitchen operating smoothly. The role involves preparing ingredients and dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications, maintaining food availability, and supporting customer service and kitchen cleanliness in a fast-paced environment. The cook may assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Solve practical problems and interpret instructions across varied situations with limited standardization.
Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions, and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Where applicable, safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.

Nice To Haves

Six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Prepare cooking surfaces and ready the kitchen for service.
Prepare vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast foods according to restaurant recipes and specifications.
Place food in hot cases, monitor quantities, and refill as necessary.
Prepare items for upcoming shifts to support a smooth transition.
Stay knowledgeable about menu items and take guest orders as needed.
Order products and supplies when necessary, or notify the department head of needs.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other areas of the store as needed and complete special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
