Miller's Health Systems provides free training for people interested in a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Students must complete classroom instruction and clinical training, then pass the state exam to become a Certified Nurse's Aide. The classroom portion requires 36–40 hours of instruction. Students must pass each classroom test with a score of at least 80%, with up to three attempts per test. Students who do not pass the classroom phase will not proceed to clinicals. The clinical practicum requires 75 hours of supervised practice in a long-term care facility. Students must successfully perform all required skills. The first 16 practicum hours are with the class instructor, and absence during that period results in dismissal from the program. Students may be assigned a preceptor to support organization and time management. At the end of the program, the instructor and preceptor complete evaluations of the student's clinical progress. Required skills not signed off in the classroom must be demonstrated and signed off during clinicals. Completed skills checklists and a daily clinical sign-in record, including dates, hours, and required signatures, must be submitted for eligibility to take the state exam. Before starting the course, students must pass a criminal background check and TB test and complete a physical. Attendance at all classroom sessions is mandatory. Unsatisfactory performance or attendance issues may result in dismissal. Students should contact the facility for dress-code details. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate of completion and a scheduled test date. Miller's Merry Manor pays for the scheduled test if the student is hired and remains in good standing as an employee; Miller's may also pay for one retake. Students who are not employees receive their application and completion certificate so they can schedule and pay for their own test.
