Miller's Health Systems provides free training for people interested in a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Students must complete classroom instruction and a supervised clinical practicum, then pass the state exam to become a Certified Nurse's Aide. The classroom portion consists of 36–40 hours of instruction. Students must pass each classroom test with a score of at least 80%, with up to three attempts per test. Students who do not pass the classroom phase will not proceed to clinicals. The clinical practicum consists of 75 supervised hours in a long-term care facility. Students must successfully perform all required skills, complete and submit their skills checklists, and maintain a daily clinical sign-in record documenting hours and signatures. The first 16 practicum hours are with the class instructor; absence during that period results in dismissal from the program. Students may also work with a preceptor, and the preceptor and instructor evaluate student progress. Before starting the course, students must pass a criminal background check and complete a TB test and physical. Attendance at all classroom sessions is mandatory, and unsatisfactory performance or attendance may result in dismissal. Students who complete the course receive a certificate of completion and a scheduled state test date. Miller's Merry Manor pays for the test for students hired and in good standing as employees, including one retake if needed. Students who are not employees receive their application and certificate and must schedule and pay for their own test.
