Miller's Health Systems provides free training for people interested in pursuing a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Students must complete classroom instruction and supervised clinical training, then pass the state exam to become a Certified Nurse's Aide. The classroom portion requires 36–40 hours of instruction. Students must score at least 80% on each classroom test and have up to three attempts to pass. Students who do not pass the classroom phase will not advance to clinicals. Attendance at every classroom session is mandatory. The clinical practicum consists of 75 supervised hours in a long-term care facility. The first 16 hours are completed with the class instructor; absence during this period results in dismissal from the program. Students must successfully perform all required skills, complete and submit their skills checklists, and maintain a daily clinical sign-in record that includes the date, actual hours worked, the student's signature, and a licensed supervisor's countersignature. A preceptor may be assigned to help with organization and time management. The preceptor and instructor complete evaluations of the student's clinical progress. Before starting, students must pass a criminal background check and TB test and complete a physical. Unsatisfactory performance or attendance may result in dismissal. Students should ask the facility about dress code requirements. Successful students receive a completion certificate and a scheduled test date. Miller's Merry Manor pays for the scheduled state test and one retake if the student is hired and remains in good standing as an employee. Students who are not employees receive their application and certificate so they can schedule and pay for their own test.
