About The Position

Our client is an established, respected boutique law firm in Vancouver known for the quality of its work and the strength of its team culture. As the firm continues to grow, they are looking to add a billing clerk who will become an integral part of their administrative and finance operations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with some prior experience in legal billing — or a strong general accounting or administrative background who is ready to learn the specifics of a law firm environment. The firm offers mentorship, stability, and a genuinely supportive place to develop professionally.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in a billing role — prior law firm experience is a strong asset but not a strict requirement
  • Comfort working with legal billing or practice management software; familiarity with PCLaw, Soluno, or Clio is a plus
  • A detail-oriented, methodical approach — billing accuracy matters and you take it seriously
  • Strong written communication skills for professional client-facing correspondence and internal coordination
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, meet billing cycle deadlines, and stay organized across multiple active files
  • A collaborative, low-drama disposition — you work well with lawyers, assistants, and administrative colleagues alike
  • Basic familiarity with trust accounting principles or a willingness to learn the Law Society of BC's requirements

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, formatting, and issuing client invoices in accordance with lawyer instructions and client billing arrangements
  • Reviewing and editing prebills — correcting time entries, narrative descriptions, rate discrepancies, and write-downs as directed
  • Managing work-in-progress (WIP) reports and assisting lawyers in monitoring billing targets and outstanding matters
  • Processing accounts receivable, tracking outstanding invoices, and following up on overdue accounts with professionalism
  • Maintaining accurate records in the firm's practice management and billing software (PCLaw, Soluno, Clio, or similar)
  • Coordinating with the trust accounting function to ensure proper application of trust funds to invoices in compliance with Law Society of BC requirements
  • Responding to internal billing inquiries from lawyers and legal assistants in a timely and helpful manner
  • Supporting month-end and year-end billing processes and assisting with any related reporting
