About The Position

Join our Employee Services team as a Benefits Services Analyst and play a vital role in delivering high-quality benefits support and services to university employees. This position combines benefits administration, problem-solving, data management, and cross-functional collaboration with opportunities to contribute to annual enrollment, special projects, and initiatives that enhance the employee experience and strengthen People & Culture operations.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of general HR and employee benefits methods, procedures, and practices; working knowledge of payroll processes and their relationship to employee benefit administration

  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical procedures, regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreement provisions related to employee benefits and payroll

  • Skill in following guidelines and providing input and feedback as required and applicable to regulatory compliance

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, insurance carriers, state agencies, Payroll, and other People & Culture Staff
  • Ability to handle multiple work priorities, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and appropriately handle sensitive employee information
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
  • Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of progressively responsible full-time benefits administration
  • Experience in benefits administration in the CSU system or any other benefits administration experience
  • Experience with PIMS, PeopleSoft/Oracle, MyCalPERS databases
  • Experience delivering presentations, training and orientations
  • Two years of customer service where handling of sensitive and confidential matters was required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of work related to the administration of employee benefits, retirement programs, including coordinating benefit-related matters for employees on leave.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve benefit-related employment data ranging from routine to moderate complexity.
  • Maintain and update employee benefit and related data in automated information systems (PeopleSoft, CHRS, PIMS, MyCalPERS) and other applicable systems.
  • Prepare and process benefit plan documents, enrollment changes, retirement-related transactions, and other benefit information.
  • Certify pertinent information in MyCalPERS and maintain and key data into PIMS for the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
  • Maintain confidential employee benefit files and records and ensure the accuracy and integrity of employee benefit data.
  • Serve as a liaison between Benefits and Payroll on matters involving employee benefit deductions, enrollment changes, retirement contributions, benefit-related pay adjustments, and other transactions requiring coordination between the two areas.
  • Review benefit-related payroll information and identify discrepancies between benefit elections, employee records, and payroll deductions; research and coordinate corrections as appropriate.
  • Provide/enter benefit-related information into payroll and benefits systems, including PIMS, PeopleSoft, MyCalPERS, and other applicable systems.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, the State Controller’s Office, and other People & Culture staff to resolve benefit-related payroll discrepancies and ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Assist with audits, reconciliations, reports, and data reviews involving employee benefits and payroll-related information.
  • Participate in the new employee benefits orientations and other employee education activities.
