About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Behavioral Health Technician aids with activities of daily living and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of BHT’s.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • CPR/FA Certification – to be obtained within first 30 days
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card – have current card or show proof of applying within 7 days from hire date
  • Handle with Care – to be obtained within first 30 days
  • Successful clearance of pre-employment criminal/county/state background check
  • Successful clearance of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Successful clearance of TB PPD testing upon hire and annual screening of TB symptoms
  • Attending clinical oversight with BHP once every 2 weeks worked for a minimum of 2 sessions per month.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides consistent supervision and ensures patient safety.
  • Escorts clients to appointments and activities on campus as needed.
  • Assists with educating clients regarding daily personal care.
  • Accurately observes and documents client behavior, condition changes, and vital signs.
  • Reports all significant findings, concerns, and incidents promptly to the BHT Supervisor, Lead BHT or Charge Nurse.
  • Completes required rounds and documentation timely and accurately.
  • Recognizes and reports behavioral or mood changes, including suicidal ideations, homicidal ideations, self-harm or aggression.
  • Use de-escalation and “Handle with Care” techniques appropriately.
  • Follows assigned observation levels and implements safety precautions.
  • Performs housekeeping duties and maintains cleanliness in patient living areas.
  • Secures personal belongings and valuables according to the procedure.
  • Utilizes proper transfer techniques and fall prevention measures.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure seamless coordination of client care.
  • Use Microsoft Teams for real-time messaging, updates, and coordination with interdisciplinary team members (e.g., therapists, nurses, supervisors).
  • Monitor and respond to Outlook email communications in a timely and professional manner, adhering to internal expectations for documentation and follow-up.
  • Answer and place phone calls using appropriate codes and protocols ensuring immediate notification to relevant personnel.
  • Document and relay critical client information including behavior changes, attendance issues, and safety concerns to the appropriate staff and supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in all verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Support a team-oriented environment by participating in staff meetings, training, and interdisciplinary planning.
  • Uphold a client-centered approach in all interactions, using language that is supportive, empathetic, compassionate, inclusive, and recovery-focused.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Provides one-on-one support and assists with behavior interventions and redirection.
  • Orients new clients and support structured daily routines.
  • Adheres to infection control, universal precautions, and confidentiality standards.
  • Follows discharge procedures and maintains Clients’ Rights.
  • Prioritizes interventions in changing or emergency situations.
