About The Position

The Bartender provides exceptional beverage service to Members and their guests while creating a welcoming, polished, and enjoyable club experience. The role prepares and serves beverages accurately and efficiently, maintains a clean and organized bar, and anticipates Member needs with a friendly, attentive demeanor. The Bartender is expected to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and consistently high service standards in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

As a representative of Des Moines Golf and Country Club, the Bartender demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to exceptional service. The position may also support club events, banquets, private functions, and other Food & Beverage operations.

Requirements

• Previous bartending or hospitality experience.
• Knowledge of beverage preparation, service techniques, and responsible alcohol service practices.
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with Members, guests, coworkers, and management.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to stay organized, move quickly, and adapt as business volume changes.

• Ability to lift and carry trays, dishes, and supplies weighing up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to reach, bend, lift, and carry beverage supplies, glassware, and other items as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Responsibilities

• Greet Members and guests promptly and warmly, creating a positive first impression and welcoming atmosphere.
• Prepare and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages according to established recipes, presentation standards, and service procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine, spirits, beverage menus, and daily or seasonal offerings.
• Provide attentive, personalized service, anticipate Member preferences, and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Take and process beverage orders accurately, communicate with servers and other Food & Beverage team members, and coordinate service as needed.
• Operate the point-of-sale system, process member charges, and follow end-of-shift closeout procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked bar, including beverage stations, glassware, tools, equipment, and service areas.
• Monitor inventory, replenish supplies as needed, and communicate shortages, equipment concerns, and other operational needs to management.
• Follow applicable alcohol service laws, responsible beverage service practices, food safety requirements, and Club policies.
• Assist with club events, banquets, private functions, and other Food & Beverage operations as assigned.
• Maintain a professional appearance and follow established dress code, grooming, attendance, and punctuality expectations.
• Protect Member privacy and maintain confidentiality regarding Member information and Club business.
• Work collaboratively with management and colleagues to support smooth operations and a consistent, high-quality Member experience.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
