About The Position

A Barnes & Noble Barista is an integral member of the café team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping them choose beverages and café items. The role supports efficient café operations by maintaining attractive displays, stocking deliveries, tidying the bake case and dining area, and providing quick, friendly service at the register. Baristas are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility when scheduling gaps arise, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. They are trained to use café technology and registers, prepare food and drinks accurately, maintain café and retail presentation, receive and stock deliveries, perform cleaning tasks, follow FIFO and product-dating practices, support the bookfloor when needed, and follow loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. As they gain experience, Baristas develop knowledge of beverage, bakery, savory, gifting, and café retail offerings; maintain appealing displays; support sales objectives and promotions; make customization recommendations; and apply café safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards. The role involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Baristas may work in other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster.
