A Barnes & Noble Barista is an integral member of the café team, welcoming customers, answering questions, recommending beverages and café items, and providing quick, friendly, professional service at the register. The role also helps maintain an attractive, clean, and efficiently run café by stocking deliveries, tidying the bake case and dining area, and supporting café presentation and retail fixtures. Baristas are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. They receive training and are expected to become proficient in the café’s operational responsibilities, including using registers and other technology, merchandising, preparing food and drinks accurately, receiving and stocking deliveries, completing cleaning tasks, following FIFO and product-dating practices, and understanding loss prevention and de-escalation procedures. They may also support the bookstore floor team and, if able and needed, work at other stores in the wider cluster. As they gain experience, Baristas build knowledge of café beverages, bakery and savory products, gifting, promotions, customization options, retail offerings, training tools, and safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures. The position offers a development path toward Senior Barista as employees demonstrate mastery of the role’s skills. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures. The job involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking.
