About The Position
Norristown State Hospital is hiring a Barber 1 to provide barbering services that support the health, hygiene, comfort, and well-being of patients. The role involves assessing hair and scalp conditions, performing grooming services, maintaining service records, and coordinating appointments. The barber must follow sanitation and hospital safety requirements and interact empathetically with patients who may be uncooperative or have physical or mental challenges. This is a full-time, onsite position. The schedule is 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch; hours may change based on operational needs. Telework is not available. Requirements
- Possession of a barber license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.
- Meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Be able to perform the essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation.
- Following a conditional offer, pass a medical examination and drug screening and submit satisfactory criminal history reports, including Pennsylvania State Police and FBI clearances, as required by the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ hair and scalp conditions, recommend needs to nursing staff, and report concerning scalp conditions.
- Provide shampooing, cutting, shaping, trimming, and other grooming services.
- Maintain daily service logs and compile monthly statistical reports for all hospital units.
- Sterilize tools, comply with regulations, and keep equipment in proper working condition.
- Coordinate appointments, post schedules, and encourage patients to participate in grooming care.
- Follow hospital policies and ensure secure handling of tools and supplies.
- Assist patients empathetically, including those who may be uncooperative or have physical or mental challenges.
