About The Position

The Barback provides servers and guests with a clean, stocked bar area. The role supports bartenders and guests by maintaining bar cleanliness and supplies, assisting with beverage service, and promoting positive guest relations. The position also follows responsible alcohol beverage service procedures.

Requirements

• County of San Diego Food Handler Card.
• California ABC Responsible Beverage Service Certification.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Ability to work effectively with team members and guests.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and composure.
• Ability to understand verbal directives and written instructions.
• Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to accept constructive criticism.
• Ability to perform basic data entry.
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours at a time.
• Ability to bend, stoop, push, and pull.
• Ability to work in a smoking environment.

Responsibilities

• Keep bar areas safe and sanitary by cleaning bar and counter surfaces, emptying ashtrays, cleaning cups, glasses, and utensils, sweeping floors, taking bus tubs to the dishwashing station, and disposing of trash.
• Stock and clean bar areas by putting away water, bar supplies, ice, cups, glasses, and condiments; preparing garnishes; and cleaning coffee machines, soda and beer dispensers, ice bins, sinks, dishwashers, shelves, and counters according to established procedures.
• Welcome guests entering the bar, assist bartenders with beverage orders, deliver requested beverages, and respond to guest requests.
• Promote guest relations by providing current information about sports events, promotional contests, and giveaways; offering assistance and product knowledge; and treating guests in a friendly, courteous manner.
• Follow responsible alcohol service policies, including checking identification for guests who appear under age 30, monitoring consumption, preventing intoxication according to established procedures, stopping service at the designated time, and clearing alcoholic containers, glasses, and bottles from each venue at the specified time.
