About The Position

The Bakery Sales Associate sells Harmons’ fresh Bakery items by providing remarkable customer service and educating customers about Bakery products so they can choose items that meet their needs. The associate packages and labels products, fills shelves and cases, restocks inventory, prepares products for the next day, and proofs and bakes items. The role also helps maintain product quality, freshness, assortment, pricing accuracy, cleanliness, and department appearance. Associates assist with cake and special orders and support managers, bakers, cake decorators, and artisan bakers as needed. The job involves daily interaction with store associates and customers. Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment, with possible frequent exposure to hot, cold, slippery, dusty (including flour), and wet conditions. The associate must be able to perform the listed physical tasks throughout the workday, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Ability to operate a label machine, oven, and proof box.
Current Food Handler’s Permit.
Enjoy working with and handling bakery products; have an interest in pastries and other Bakery items.
Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
Strong organization and planning skills.
Solid verbal and listening communication skills for effective communication with customers and fellow associates.
Ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for individual and team success.

Ability to stand, climb, walk, and bend throughout the workday and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Follow established departmental and store policies and procedures.
Ensure the quality and freshness of Bakery products and services.
Maintain appropriate product assortment and inventory levels.
Confirm pricing accuracy and signage, with particular attention to advertised items.
Clean and sanitize the Bakery daily and maintain company appearance standards.
Assist customers with cake and special orders.
Wash and put away bowls, pans, and baking trays.
Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
Accurately package and label Bakery products.
Fill shelves and cases with product; restock the Bakery department and help sort and put away deliveries.
Minimize waste by following production sheets, monitoring code dates, and rotating items appropriately.
Assist managers, bakers, cake decorators, and artisan bakers as needed.
Mix and scoop cookies; proof and bake items.
Assist customers by writing on cakes.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
