About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The position involves helping customers discover and choose bakery products, preparing bakery items—including wedding cakes—to customer requests, and decorating cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items. The employee also supports merchandise presentation and inventory, follows food safety and other applicable regulations, maintains bakery equipment, and reports discrepancies, safety risks, incidents, and repair needs.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and answer customer questions or make product suggestions.
Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to customers to help them find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Adhere to local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply control, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager about items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
