About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The employee is expected to demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position involves assisting customers with bakery products, preparing and decorating bakery items—including wedding cakes—and maintaining product quality, merchandising, inventory awareness, and equipment. The employee follows applicable health, safety, food safety, and civil code regulations, as well as company procedures for customer service, loss prevention, maintenance, and department operations.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products, answer questions, and make product suggestions.
Offer product samples to help customers discover items or products they ask about.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to customers to help them get the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Ensure compliance with merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
