About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator provides exceptional customer service and helps create a safe, clean, welcoming environment. The role supports the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals and maintaining quality assurance standards. The employee prepares and decorates bakery products, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests, while following company guidelines for equipment use, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. The position also requires demonstrating the company's values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering customers’ questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make suggestions.
Offer product samples and prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to help customers find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout, help customers locate products, and stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow rules for merchandising, customer service, labor and expense control, supplies, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and report items needing repair to the appropriate department or store manager.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
