About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The position assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The role involves helping customers choose bakery products, preparing and decorating bakery items—including wedding cakes—and maintaining product quality, freshness, inventory, merchandising, food safety, and equipment. The associate follows company and regulatory requirements, supports safety and loss-prevention programs, and reports discrepancies, hazards, repair needs, and incidents to management. Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products, answer questions, and make product suggestions.
Offer samples and prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to help customers find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply control, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager about items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
