About The Position

The AVP – Transportation Broker is a producer role on the Breakwater Markets team, a Cover Whale sister company specializing in commercial auto and trucking placement through retail agents. The role builds and grows the retail agent channel, including Cover Whale’s existing agency partners, drives quoted premiums, and applies market knowledge to place submissions with appropriate markets. The AVP reports to the Senior Vice President, works closely with the Executive Vice President, and helps shape the Agency Management System, service standards, and renewal process as the team scales. This is a fully remote position with standard business hours and prompt responsiveness to agents and markets to meet service-level standards. Work is primarily office-based computer and phone work, with occasional travel to meet agents and markets and attend industry events.

  • Working knowledge of how insurance markets set guidelines and appetite and what each submission requires.
  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license in the resident state, or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills, with discipline to meet service-level standards for quotes, binds, and service items.
  • Proficiency with agency management systems and ability to reach expert-level proficiency in Meridian AMS.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven or more years of experience in commercial auto or trucking insurance brokerage, wholesale placement, or underwriting.

  • Experience building service-level agreements, service workflows, or renewal processes for an insurance team.
  • Familiarity with telematics-based insurance or driver safety programs.
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate existing and new retail agent relationships, including Cover Whale’s existing retail agency partners through the One Door Concept, and contribute to onboarding testing agents and retail agents against quarterly scorecard targets.
  • Quote new business to contribute to team and individual gross written premium (GWP) quoted targets set in the quarterly scorecard.
  • Develop expertise in current market guidelines and appetite within two weeks of hire and use that knowledge to place submissions with appropriate markets.
  • Refer existing market relationships to the Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President for vetting to address gaps in Breakwater’s market and product offerings, and meet quarterly market referral targets.
  • Achieve and maintain expert proficiency in Meridian AMS, recommend system and technology improvements, and attend weekly team meetings with the Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President to discuss enhancements.
  • Help create and adhere to service-level-agreement workflows covering, at a minimum, quoting, binding, and service items such as endorsements and cancellations.
  • Help build the renewal process and determine the headcount required for in-force accounts; ensure the process is operationalized according to established standards and proactively remarket accounts in a timely manner.
