About The Position

The authorized level of the position is Audio Visual Tech III. Applications are being accepted down to the Audio Visual Tech I in the event of recruiting difficulties. This role involves operating all equipment and controls, performing preventive maintenance, and conducting repair work using electrical testing devices. Modifications to systems, explaining technical use of facilities to faculty and staff, recording closed-circuit television programs, and checking the quality of television playbacks are also key responsibilities. The position includes training student help, overseeing their work, arranging for operators for evening and weekend use, maintaining records, and requisitioning/maintaining supplies. There are also opportunities to assist in equipment selection and supervise lower-level technicians.

Requirements

Audio-Visual Tech I: 1 year specialized experience, 0 years supervisory experience, 1 year total experience.
Audio-Visual Tech II: 2 years specialized experience, 0 years supervisory experience, 2 years total experience.
Audio-Visual Tech III: 3 years specialized experience, 3 years supervisory experience, 3 years total experience.
Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible experience operating and maintaining one or more types of audio-visual sound and projection equipment, such as film projection equipment and sound systems, television tape recorders, cameras and monitors, disc and tape reorders, record players, and amplifying systems. For certain positions at the II and III levels, experience must have included making mechanical and electronic repairs to television equipment.
Supervisory Experience: For the Audio-Visual Technician III position, this requirement may be met by demonstration of supervisory aptitude.
Applicants must lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and lift/carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).

Responsibilities

Operates all equipment and controls.
Performs preventive maintenance work which includes changing weak tubes, lubricating, cleaning and replacing or adjusting recording heads.
Does repair work which involves the utilization of electrical testing devices including the diagnostic use of the oscilloscope and signal generator.
Makes modifications such as installing new mounts for projection equipment, installing T.V. tuners and amplifiers into the system, and installing remote control devices.
Explains technical use of facilities, equipment and controls to faculty, staff and/or others.
Records closed-circuit television programs.
Checks quality of television playbacks.
Trains student help and oversees the work in the operation of equipment.
Arranges for operators for evening and weekend use of equipment.
Maintains records.
Requisitions supplies and maintains an adequate level of supplies.
May assist in the selection of new equipment.
May supervise lower level technicians.
