About The Position

The Attendant – Donation Center creates a positive experience for donors and represents America’s Thrift in the communities it serves. The role builds relationships with donors, provides customer service, and accepts, organizes, and prepares donations for transportation and processing while keeping collection areas clean, safe, and welcoming. The attendant may work independently at an assigned location while collaborating with drivers, management, and other team members. The work involves handling donations, maintaining records, monitoring site conditions, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather and around vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Dependability and the ability to prioritize tasks, follow procedures, and maintain attention to safety and accuracy.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with drivers and other team members.
Ability to maintain required records and communicate concerns and updates to management.
Must successfully complete required background check screening.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on indoor and outdoor surfaces.
Ability to frequently lift and carry donated merchandise and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently push and pull carts, bins, equipment, and donations requiring up to 25 pounds of force.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, twist, reach, grasp, handle, move, and position items, including repetitive loading, unloading, and sorting.
Ability to climb and descend stairs, ramps, steps, and approved ladders or equipment as required; duties may involve climbing up to 14 feet when authorized and properly equipped.
Ability to maintain balance and visual and auditory awareness around vehicles, trailers, equipment, donors, and other activity.
Ability to communicate verbally with donors, team members, drivers, and management throughout the workday.
Ability to work in heat, cold, and wet weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Prior customer service, donation collection, retail, warehousing, community outreach, or related experience.

Responsibilities

Greet and assist donors promptly, courteously, and professionally, and explain the company’s mission and community impact as appropriate.
Receive donated clothing, shoes, household goods, and other acceptable items at assigned donation locations.
Safely load, unload, carry, move, stack, and organize donations in vehicles, carts, bins, containers, trailers, donation boxes, and collection areas.
Inspect, sort, categorize, and prepare donated materials for processing, recycling, distribution, or transport according to operational guidelines.
Coordinate with drivers, management, and team members regarding donation movement, pickup readiness, collection capacity, and workflow.
Maintain clean, safe, organized, and welcoming indoor and outdoor collection areas, including trailers, donation boxes, drive-thru lanes, and surrounding grounds.
Monitor site conditions and promptly report safety, maintenance, operational, and capacity concerns to management.
Keep accurate donation activity records and provide required daily reports and operational updates.
Build positive relationships with donors, coworkers, property partners, and members of the public.
Follow company procedures for safe donation handling, traffic and vehicle awareness, housekeeping, and required personal protective equipment.
Work independently or collaboratively, adapt to assigned collection-site needs, and perform other duties as assigned by management.
