The Match Associate Teacher (MAT) Program is a one-year apprenticeship designed to launch the teaching careers of aspiring educators, with the possibility of a second-year extension for participants who need additional development and demonstrate potential for continued growth. Associate Teachers are placed on grade-level teams in grades K–5, subject-level teams in grades 6–12, or Special Education teams at one of Match’s three Boston campuses. They spend full days in classrooms with host teachers, observing, assisting, and gradually taking on more teaching responsibilities. They receive coaching and mentoring from expert teachers and school leaders, cohort-specific and campus-based professional development, and practical training in designing and delivering rigorous instruction and building purposeful, joyful classroom cultures. The program is intended to prepare successful participants to become effective first-year lead teachers, with those who obtain Massachusetts provisional licensure highly prioritized for available Match positions in the following school year. The program runs from August 1 through July 31. Match provides guidance on Massachusetts certification requirements, embeds coursework related to Moderate Disabilities Licensure, and requires Associate Teachers to obtain their SEI endorsement through a Match-organized course taught by a DESE-approved provider. Returning MATs may also teach Summer Academy to gain further experience. The stated compensation is $52,500 for Associate Teacher Year 1 and $55,650 for Associate Teacher Year 2, including a $3,150 development stipend. The posting also lists a compensation trajectory for subsequent Lead Teacher years. The pay scale is based on the current 2026–27 year.
