About The Position

The Associate I, Retail Sales Cashier provides exceptional customer service by greeting customers, responding to inquiries, and assisting with questions, concerns, and purchases. The role operates a computer-based point-of-sale system, verifies till counts, completes accurate transactions, and maintains a balanced cash drawer. It also supports Goodwill’s mission by encouraging customers to round up their purchases and explaining the mission that the initiative supports.

The associate helps maintain a clean, safe, organized, and well-stocked sales floor, point-of-sale area, and restrooms. Duties include opening and closing procedures, organizing and cleaning merchandise areas, and following retail center policies and safety procedures. Associates may be cross-trained and provide backup in other departments. The position is part-time, pays $16.58 per hour, and requires a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, holidays, and occasional overtime.

Requirements

• Accurately handle numbers and perform basic calculations, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication; understand the value of U.S. coins and currency.
• Effectively communicate with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
• Operate a computer-based cash register and credit card machine.
• Withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting for up to eight hours per day.
• Have color vision sufficient for accurate transactions.
• Work a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of retail sales or cash handling experience preferred.
• Strong cash-handling skills highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
• Provide assistance to customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
• Operate a computer-based point-of-sale system, verify till counts, complete accurate transactions, and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
• Encourage customers to round up transactions and share information about the Goodwill mission supported by the initiative.
• Complete opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor by cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking up items, and putting away merchandise and returns.
• Keep the point-of-sale area, sales floor, and restrooms safe, clean, organized, and well stocked.
• Make customer delight/power hour announcements over the intercom to organize and clean the sales floor.
• Follow retail center policies, procedures, and safety processes.
• Cross-train in other departments or areas and provide backup as required.
• Perform additional duties as required.
