About The Position

Blitt and Gaines, P.C. is a debt collection law firm with over 30 years of experience representing large financial institutions. The firm has offices across Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, and emphasizes compliant, ethical legal services. The Associate Attorney gains extensive courtroom experience through regular appearances on behalf of the firm. The role reviews new claims and pleadings, manages a contested litigation queue, and supports the litigation process. The Associate Attorney develops knowledge of court procedures, internal controls, and firm and client policies. There are no billable hour requirements.

Requirements

Juris Doctorate and admission to the Kansas bar.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff, judges, opposing counsel, and court clerks.
Demonstrated tact, discretion, and courtesy in professional interactions.
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, manage timelines, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records with strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Additional licenses in states where the firm operates: Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, or Wisconsin.
Experience with Collection Master or equivalent case management systems.

Responsibilities

Appear in court on behalf of the firm a minimum of three days per week.
Review new claims for compliance with firm and client standards.
Review and approve pleadings filed with the courts, including complaints and motions.
Occasionally draft motions and responses for contested matters as needed.
Argue contested motions and conduct trials and arbitrations.
Manage telephonic and written communication with opposing counsel.
Prepare and respond to discovery or oversee counterclaims involving the firm or its clients.
