Assistant Youth Mentor - Before/After School Enrichment

About The Position

The Assistant Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment programs during the 2026–2027 school year. The childcare site will be determined during the interview. The role focuses on helping children learn and build self-esteem through engaging, developmentally appropriate activities, positive interactions, and behavior guidance. The mentor also communicates with parents and guardians, maintains program records and organized learning spaces, and participates in team planning.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in at least two years of child development coursework.
At least two years of verified child care experience.
Prior experience working with children, whether professional, volunteer, or familial.
Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date, including at least six hours of child-care-related training annually.

Responsibilities

Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
Implement the program curriculum and ensure learning experiences are child-centered and developmentally appropriate; this may include overseeing classroom staff.
Provide quality adult-child interactions through engagement, positive and encouraging feedback, and open-ended questions.
Use positive reinforcement to redirect behavior.
Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians.
Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
Maintain learning centers with quality materials organized in appropriately labeled containers.
Attend monthly team-planning meetings, or more often as needed.
