Assistant Youth Mentor - Before/After School Enrichment

About The Position

The Assistant Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role focuses on helping children learn and thrive in a fun, diverse environment through developmentally appropriate activities, positive interactions, and effective behavior guidance. The childcare site will be determined during the interview. The position includes team support and opportunities to learn and grow at the YMCA.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in at least two years of child development coursework.
At least two years of verified child care experience.
Prior experience working with children, whether professional, volunteer, or familial.
Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
Ability to pass all relevant clearances.
Ability to keep trainings current, including at least six hours of child-care-related training annually.

Responsibilities

Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
Implement the program curriculum and ensure learning experiences are child-centered and developmentally appropriate; this may include overseeing classroom staff.
Provide quality adult-child interactions through engagement, positive and encouraging feedback, and open-ended questions.
Use positive reinforcement to redirect behavior.
Communicate with parents and guardians patiently, kindly, effectively, and in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
Keep learning centers organized and stocked with quality learning materials in appropriately labeled containers.
Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
