About The Position

The Assistant Store Team Leader supports the Store Team Leader in operating a Pet Supplies Plus store and delivering neighborly, knowledgeable, trustworthy, pet-centric service. The role helps lead store employees by example, supports sales and productivity planning, and creates a positive environment for both team members and customers. It also contributes to recruiting, onboarding, employee development, community partnerships, and adherence to store policies covering cleanliness, animal care, safety, and security.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience leading a retail team.
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Good communication skills.
Ability to operate store equipment, including a forklift.
Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work flexible schedules.
Reliable transportation.
Must pass a drug test.
Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

Assist with the operational management of the store.
Follow operational policies and procedures for cleanliness, animal care, safety, and security.
Lead by example and provide exceptional, neighborly service to customers and their pets.
Analyze store sales results and develop plans with the Store Team Leader to maximize sales, customer engagement, and productivity.
Create a fun, positive environment for team members and customers, and foster a reputation for knowledgeable, trustworthy, pet-centric service.
Promote team engagement and morale by understanding individual motivations and needs, recognizing and rewarding strong performance, and helping team members achieve career goals.
Help maintain a fully staffed team and support recruiting and onboarding.
Cultivate a learning culture through onboarding, development opportunities, coaching, and feedback.
Connect with community organizations to develop event and marketing partnerships.
