The role of an Assistant Service Manager/Lane Manager is to assist the service manager in overseeing the service department, technicians, service advisors, service call center, valet, detailers, and service lane. This role involves working with the manufacturer to ensure warranty campaigns, recalls, and updates are completed accurately and in a timely fashion. The Assistant Service Manager actively promotes good morale and relationships among dealership associates, and assists in training service staff in all aspects of customer service, effective communication, service sales, CSI, work organization, and time management. They also assist in maintaining manufacturer (CSI) Customer Satisfaction Index at or above the Asbury specified goal(s) in Service for district, regional, and national scores. The Assistant Service Manager acts as a role model for service associates in motivation, organization, customer service, sales, and CSI, and motivates service advisors to provide consistent value for the dealership’s customers. They monitor advisors’ daily productivity, provide feedback, and formulate plans for improvement. Additionally, they assist in ensuring high-quality service repairs and minimizing comebacks by conducting periodic spot checks of completed jobs, and monitor advisors’ interaction with customers on the drive and telephone for effectiveness. The role also involves assisting in forecasting department goals and objectives, working with the Service Manager & Parts Manager for timely parts turnaround, and working with the shop foreman to ensure timely and proper vehicle servicing. The Assistant Service Manager attends manager meetings, conducts service department meetings as directed, and addresses and resolves customer concerns. They also assist in motivating, training, and developing employees.
