About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Elmhurst University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an emphasis in Cognitive Neuroscience, broadly defined, to begin in August 2027. The ideal candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, and possess outstanding potential as a professor in a comprehensive liberal arts setting. Responsibilities include teaching upper-level courses in their area of expertise (including Cognitive Neuroscience), lower-level methodology courses (such as Research Methods in Psychology), and other courses based on candidate ability and department needs, with a 3/3 teaching load. Preference will be given to candidates whose research programs can be adapted to a small, liberal arts environment and can involve undergraduate students. Faculty are also expected to contribute to the Department and University through service activities and advising. The department serves hundreds of majors and minors, participates in the university’s core curriculum, and supports other programs like nursing and the new neuroscience major. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body. An Ph.D. in psychology or a related field (e.g., neuroscience) is required, though ABD candidates with significant progress and a completion date before August 2027 will be considered. Materials should address ABD status if applicable.
