About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The McGill Division of Rheumatology is highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research and medical education. Its mission includes as a priority the strategic recruitment of outstanding sub-specialists committed to academic medicine. The JGH Division of Rheumatology is composed of a dynamic group of sub-specialists supporting the JGH’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care. We have excellent programs in clinical care, medical education, and medical research. Our focus is on the care of patients with acute and complex medical disorders and have focused clinical programs in systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases and rheumato-oncology. The JGH Division of Rheumatology is now aiming to bridge these programs and build a myositis-cancer program. This would encompass, among other things, myositis triggered by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI-myositis).

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree and must have completed subspecialty training in Rheumatology.
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Rheumatology.
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec.
  • Have further advanced training in myositis, in particular ICI-myositis.
  • Be committed to acquire skills to perform muscle ultrasound for diagnostic and prognostic purposes.
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
  • Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Devote 65% of their time to clinical activity, 25% to teaching, and 10% to scholarship/research.
  • Contribute to the Division’s outpatient services and in-patient consultation service.
  • Develop and formalize a clinical inpatient and outpatient consultation myositis-cancer service.
  • Be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., teaching and supervision of clinical trainees and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
