About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking applicants for a clinical practice faculty position. This role is open to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor of Clinical Practice, with the specific rank determined by experience and qualifications. The position emphasizes a commitment to excellence in teaching and service within a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will be appointed on a twelve-month full-time basis for a term of 3 years. For Assistant Professors, multi-year appointments are possible, aligning with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty on a 12-month service period are paid for 11 months of service, with one month available for paid time off. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments with the same 12-month service period and paid time off structure. The Department of Pediatrics is a large department within the UW School of Medicine, with numerous clinical divisions and a significant number of academic appointments, faculty, residents, fellows, staff, and volunteer/affiliate faculty. It is closely affiliated with Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members are located at various institutions and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. The role involves direct clinical activities as an attending physician, supervising patient care within Pediatric Emergency Services. It also includes participation in local, regional, and national activities to promote clinical interests and career goals, assisting in faculty development, and contributing to departmental development through committee memberships. The faculty member will actively participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education programs, striving for continuous growth as a teacher. Clinical responsibilities in the Emergency Department also encompass attending meetings for divisional educational and research efforts, as well as interdisciplinary and departmental opportunities. Annual reviews will cover faculty opportunities, committee participation, and other administrative activities. The search considers candidates with interests in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, teaching, research, and service. Prior experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine quality improvement leadership is a positive factor. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Requirements

  • Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).
  • Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Emergency Medicine.
  • Must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.
  • Graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in direct clinical activities as an attending physician, responsible for providing and supervising the care of patients at sites of care for Pediatric Emergency Services.
