About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), on the Clinician-Scholar track. The position is full-time with a twelve-month appointment. Assistant Professors are on a 3-year renewable term, while Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period, with one month available for paid time off. The Department of Pediatrics is the second largest in the UW School of Medicine, with twenty-one clinical divisions and a large number of academic appointments, residents, fellows, staff, and volunteer/affiliate faculty. It is closely affiliated with Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members are located at various institutions and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in direct clinical activities as an attending physician, supervise patient care, participate in local, regional, and national activities to promote clinical interests and career goals, assist in faculty development, and contribute to departmental development through committee memberships. The faculty member will also be an active participant in medical student, resident, and fellow education programs, and will work to grow as a teacher and educator. Clinical responsibilities include attending meetings for divisional educational and research efforts, as well as interdisciplinary and departmental opportunities. Faculty opportunities, committee participation, and administrative activities will be reviewed annually. Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, teaching, research, and service. Prior experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine quality improvement leadership efforts is a positive factor.

Requirements

  • Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).
  • Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Emergency Medicine.
  • Must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.
  • For University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in direct clinical activities as an attending physician, responsible for providing and supervising the care of patients at sites of care for Pediatric Emergency Services.
  • Participate in local, regional and national activities that will promote clinical interests as well as develop career goals.
  • Assist in faculty development efforts during career progression.
  • Assist the department in its development through committee memberships as requested.
  • Be an active participant in medical student, resident, and fellow education programs and work diligently to continually grow as a teacher and educator.
  • Attend meetings to further divisional educational and research efforts, as well as interdisciplinary and department opportunities.
