The Assistant Manager is responsible for everything that happens during a shift, including cost, inventory, and cash controls, customer relations, staffing, paperwork, food management, store cleanliness, marketing, and profitability. The role requires setting a strong example, following all policies and procedures, and expecting the same from the crew. The Assistant Manager leads a shift team of 3 to 25 people and helps maintain service, quality, attendance, and store standards. The schedule is described as flexible, but the manager must be willing to work when the team needs them most. The job involves working in a pizza store with exposure to varying temperatures, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped spaces, hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts. Physical activities include standing, walking, occasional sitting for paperwork, lifting and carrying supplies, pushing or pulling trays, occasional climbing, bending, crouching, and continuous reaching and hand use. Team members may use common store tools and equipment such as computers, telephones, calculators, protective clothing, pizza cutters, and pizza peels.
