The Assistant Manager is responsible for everything that happens during their shift, including cost, inventory, and cash controls, customer relations, staffing, paperwork, food management, scheduling, store cleanliness, marketing, and profitability. The manager sets an example for the crew, follows company policies and procedures, and expects the same from team members. The role also includes general store duties such as operating equipment, stocking ingredients, preparing products, processing orders, taking inventory, completing paperwork, and cleaning equipment and the facility. On-the-job orientation and training are provided. The job may also involve delivery duties: delivering products by car to customers, distributing flyers and door hangers, and navigating delivery locations and adverse terrain. The position has physical demands including extended standing, walking, lifting and carrying supplies, pushing or pulling trays, climbing, bending, crouching, reaching, and repetitive hand use. Work takes place in a store with temperature variations, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped spaces, hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts; delivery work may involve adverse weather.
