About The Position

The Historic Site Manager I serves as the Assistant Site Manager and interpretive supervisor at Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site, overseeing the visitor center’s daily administration. The position combines staff and volunteer supervision, interpretation and educational programming, visitor services, administrative and financial work, sales desk operations, and site maintenance. The site is located at 5466 Harper House Rd., Four Oaks, North Carolina. The required schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in history or a field specifically related to the site from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Must have a valid driver’s license issued in the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated knowledge of state or national antebellum and Civil War history.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing special events and educational programming.
Experience planning, supervising, and/or directing the work of subordinate employees or volunteers.
Experience maintaining records and preparing routine reports.
Knowledge of archival practices and ability to write cohesive material based on research.

Responsibilities

Recruit and manage one to two full-time staff, temporary employees, interns, and volunteers.
Develop interpretive programs; research and write exhibits and articles; and ensure proper care of artifacts.
Greet visitors, lead tours, provide living history demonstrations, and deliver presentations.
Assist with daily clerical and financial tasks, including e-procurement.
Operate the sales desk and assist with site maintenance.
