About The Position

The Assistant Manager is part of Madewell’s store leadership team and helps drive profitability through customer connections, brand loyalty, and community engagement. The role provides immediate feedback and coaching to the sales team, collaborates with other leaders on business strategies, and supports smooth store operations. The Assistant Manager owns a designated area of responsibility, such as visual merchandising, operations, HR, or service and selling, and may take on various sales-floor roles as needed.

Requirements

Have 1–2 years of retail management experience with a similar scope.
Support the brand, customers, and teams.
Stay current with fashion trends and industry developments.
Demonstrate teamwork, flexibility, and courtesy when carrying out tasks.
Show strong problem-solving skills and the ability to champion new ideas while navigating uncertainty.
Have scheduling flexibility, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be able to bend, reach, and stretch for product, and lift, carry, and move at least 40 pounds (18 kilos).

Responsibilities

Support the Store Director and Associate Store Manager in driving business results and profitability across the brand.
Own a designated division of responsibility, such as Visual Merchandising, Operations, HR, or Service & Selling.
Manage store operations, systems, and technology while ensuring accountability.
Assist with recruiting, training, and associate development as needed.
Help create a collaborative working environment for associates.
Keep the team focused on exceeding goals and delivering best-in-class customer service.
Lead fit sessions to improve associates’ product knowledge and customer connections.
Develop ways to engage the community and build customer loyalty through events.
Provide feedback and coaching to help maximize sales team performance.
Step into a variety of sales-floor roles when needed.
